May 2006. With their "Actionday against child labour" the class 5a of the Lessing Seconday School, Frankfurt didn't only inform many people about the urgent issue of child labour, but was also successful in collecting € 1,680 for the support of a Tanzanian school. PROBONO promised in advance to double each collected Euro, so that at the end of the day the pupils could transfer the large amount of € 3,360 to Tanzania.
The enthusiasm of the children was great. During a period of ten weeks the class dealt with different aspects of child labour under the leadership of their teacher Mr. Reiner Franzmann. In May they marched trough downtown Frankfurt carrying homemade signs and posters and drawing attention to the problem of child labour with shouting slogans and rattling collection-tins.
Later the pupils set up their own information stand and sold a brochure about child labour as well as homemade cake and limonade. They also created a lot of interest as shoeshiners and street musicians.
With the collected funds the 5a supports the development of the Duluti Secondary School in Tanzania, a school which is supported by PROBONO. The money goes into the purchasing of more than 100 school desks and chairs.
