

Bonn, Germany, was the Host City for the 64th Annual United Nations Conference for Non-Governmental Organizations associated with the Department of Public Information, on the theme "Sustainable Societies; Responsive Citizens”.
19 student journalists from around the world who have excelled in their university journalism programs, distinguished themselves amongst their peers, and demonstrated a passion for the Conference's dual themes. September 2011. Visits of 22 partner schools, numerous discussions with headmasters, on-site-inspections with governmental water experts, information from the ministry of education, meetings with church members: a busy timetable characterized the two weeks the PROBONO team spent in Tanzania and Uganda. Meeting responsible school managers from face to face and discussing the educational situation of their schools was one of the most important topics. Further more, the governmental education policy in Tanzania was looked into from different aspects. With headmasters, school managers and further experts PROBONO has developed some new ideas to improve the education quality at the PROBONO partner schools. Read more about it here!
02.06. -29.06.2011 Mr and Mrs James Kiwara spent four weeks in Germany visiting the Alexander-Humboldt-School in Viernheim and the Kopernikus-School in Freigericht, both partnerschools of the Kisumundu Secondary School in Kishumundu. Mr Kiwrar, the headmaster of the school and his wife Rachel, a primary school teacher but by order of the ministry of education also responsible for all primary schools in this area, enjoyed their stay in Germany with numerous visits in different school grades. The "Tanzania-Evenings” as well as the participation in the graduation ceremony were other important moments.
In Frankfurt Mr and Mrs Kiwara got the chance to visit more PROBONO schools. By referring vividly about the daily life at Tanzanian schools they aroused interest in their home country and the daily life of the Tanzanian students.
Berlin, 31 January - They have been masters in the realisation of excellent ideas: The 365 winners of the contest "365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas” in 2011 have been announced. From the 1st of March on, every "Selected Landmark” organises a regional event to present its projects to the public.
The President of Federal Republic of Germany and patron of the contest, Christian Wulff, congratulates this year's winners: "The future of our country is decisively depending on its innovative competence”, emphasizes the President. Read more about it here!
PROBONO School-Partnerships for One World e.V. initiates and supports partnerships between schools in Germany and schools in developing countries. The two-fold aim is to support partner schools in the South and to promote social values and social engagement in German schools.
PROBONO provides funds for the construction and improvement of schools, for educational materials, for the training of teachers and to support indigent pupils in the South; it also assists and advises German schools with fundraising activities. PROBONO initiates dialogues between pupils, finances digital technology in the South and supports trips to the partner school.
This support is meant to be more than one-off or sporadic; the aim is to work together with the German schools in a long-term and lasting effort to improve the educational situation of the partner schools in the South. More about us...
