Federal Cross of Merit for PROBONO founder Andrea Alleker-Fendel!
With this award, the Federal President recognizes our chairwoman's commitment to education and sustainable development in East Africa, as well as to global learning and social engagement at partner schools in Germany. It is an award that underscores the importance of our projects and honors and encourages us at PROBONO.
At a ceremony in Frankfurt's Römer, Mayor Mike Josef presented the award from the Federal Republic of Germany to Andrea Alleker-Fendel. In his laudatory speech, Josef said that the PROBONO founder had already recognized 20 years ago that young people needed a global perspective in order to meet the challenges of the times. “You have done some pioneering work in this area,” he said, praising Alleker-Fendel.
Tanzanian government award for the PROBONO Entrepreneurship Program
With the PROBONO Entrepreneurship Program (PEP) launched in Tanzania in 2021, in which young people acquire practical entrepreneurial knowledge in their own small student companies, PROBONO has already won two awards from the Tanzanian government, in 2021 and again in 2022. In 2021, PEP even took second place among 88 projects and organizations in the competition for the best ideas for promoting entrepreneurial know-how.
The jury was impressed by the approach of laying the practical foundations for young people to start their own businesses later on while still at school. This is because youth unemployment is high in Tanzania and there are few permanent jobs available for school leavers. With the help of PEP, “job seekers” are to become “job creators.” At the award ceremony in September 2021 in the capital Dodoma, PROBONO representative Eliet Senkoro accepted the award from Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa himself.
PROBONO wins the “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas” competition
In 2011, PROBONO was honored by the initiative “Germany – Land of Ideas” in the competition “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas.” The competition, which is held under the patronage of the German President and in cooperation with the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and Deutsche Bank, awards prizes to projects that are outstanding examples of innovation and sustainability.
Awards for intercultural projects at our partner schools
In 2016, the Humboldt School in Bad Homburg won first place in the school competition organized by Gemeinsam für Afrika (Together for Africa). In their dialogue project on the topic of "Amani kwanza! / Peace First!", which was sponsored by PROBONO, 14 students from Bad Homburg worked intensively for three weeks in Tanzania with a project group from their Tanzanian partner school on the topics of peace, independence, and tolerance. They held discussions with local representatives of Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam and developed strategies for overcoming (ostensibly) religiously motivated violence.
