Construction, modernization, and furnishing of two school libraries in Tanzania

In cooperation with a local NGO, PROBONO built and equipped a school library at Relijuu Primary School in Mwanga. The beautiful, bright building was inaugurated in September 2020. The state primary school, located in a structurally weak, rural region, previously had no school library and insufficient space for school books. Some of them had to be stored in boxes on the floor. In addition to constructing the building, shelves, tables, and chairs were also produced. PROBONO also purchased many new textbooks and children's books. At the opening of the new library, the children pounced on the new books “hungry as lions,” as we were told from Tanzania.

At Irkisongo Secondary School, the existing school library was modernized and better equipped with additional library furniture and many new books. The students at the girls' school are very happy and now use the modernized library much more intensively. Almost 100 students participate in the school's reading club, which was founded as part of the PROBONO project. Reading comprehension is promoted in a fun way through shared reading, retelling stories, and various reading and quiz games.
