PROBONO supports Mwanga High School on its path to non-violent education
After a comprehensive assessment, the first project measure was intensive training for all 26 teachers and staff at the school, provided by AJISO. Using practical methods such as role-playing, reflection exercises, and discussions about “power” and “language,” the participants explored the forms and effects of violence. They also critically reflected on their own role and behavior towards the students and developed ways to effectively protect children's rights in everyday school life.
But the girls and boys themselves are also involved. In the children's rights club “Tuwalinde Watoto,” they learn about their rights and engage in education and mutual support, and learn where to find help in case of an emergency.
Experience to date shows that teachers and students are highly motivated to initiate change. Challenges such as a lack of knowledge about children's rights or fear of reporting abuse are addressed through regular training, education, and the strengthening of structures in schools. Step by step, this creates a safer learning environment that protects children's rights and strengthens the participation of all.
