New prospects for young people in Tanzania: launch of the PROBONO dual education program
Our dual training program in Tanzania has begun for young people who face particularly difficult conditions when entering the job market. Nineteen girls and sixteen boys, who have at most a secondary school diploma and come from underprivileged backgrounds, are now attending the one-year course offered by our cooperation partner Jobortunity. Some of them were also students at PROBONO partner schools.
The program begins with a four-month block of classes at the Jobortunity training center, where the young people are prepared for working life, followed by eight months of practical training in a company, primarily in the catering and tourism sector. Jobortunity cooperates with many companies in the Arusha region and has found that up to three-quarters of graduates are subsequently hired – a strong figure in the tight Tanzanian labor market with its high youth unemployment.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Gerhard and Paul-Hermann Bauder Foundation for supporting the PROBONO Dual Training Program!
