Digital transformation is also creating new opportunities for cross-border collaboration in the education sector. PROBONO is taking advantage of this opportunity and has teamed up with the PwC Foundation to develop a digital project week on the UN Sustainable Development Goal of climate action, SDG 13. This was also new territory for the participants from Mwanga High School in Tanzania and Humboldtschule Bad Homburg, which have been linked by a school partnership for many years – with great potential.

In the pilot project, around 50 students explored the topic of the climate crisis and climate protection. The focus was on the different perspectives of Tanzania and Germany and the causes and consequences of climate change. The exchange of visual impressions played an important role. The students documented a project trip to an extracurricular learning location with photos and videos, which they then showed to each other. The aim was not only to teach digital skills, but above all to give them a sense of seeing something of the partner school's country without having to board a plane – which also fits in with the learning objective of climate protection.

The German students visited the Dottenfelderhof farm in Bad Vilbel, where they not only learned a lot about agriculture's contribution to climate change and its vulnerability to its consequences, but also helped out with mucking out the stables. In Tanzania, the students visited the NGO TanzMont, where they learned about the impact of humans on the ecosystem of Kilimanjaro. This also provided an opportunity to discuss the regional consequences of climate change.

The learning platform developed by the PwC Foundation was the centerpiece and digital meeting place. Technical support during the project week was provided by climate experts, including TanzMont. The organization was founded with the aim of raising environmental awareness among the population in the Kilimanjaro region. A panel discussion with the young people also featured climate expert Dr. Sixbert Mwanga, Executive Director of the Climate Action Network Tanzania and co-author of the IPCC, as well as biologist Dr. Maiken Winter from the WissenLeben e.V. association, who joined digitally.

The conclusion: despite some technical challenges on both sides, it became clear that this form of exchange is suitable for joint learning across continents.
