During the first round of our program in Tanzania, we observed that participation in PROBONO teacher training (PTT) helps teachers connect better with their students, impart knowledge, and bring momentum to their lessons. Now PTT is entering a new round so that even more students can benefit. An initial workshop with 120 teachers from twelve schools took place in mid-September, with a series of further workshops to follow. PTT focuses on two areas: subject knowledge and teaching methods. Both are important to ensure that the content is understood and that the knowledge is conveyed in an engaging way. The feedback from the first round is encouraging, promising, and confirms the concept: Teachers are noticing that their lessons are now much more engaging for girls and boys. The children are more motivated and more confident. According to the teachers, the new teaching methods are even reflected in the grades. One math teacher reports: “The best thing I took away from it is that I can teach in a simple way that helps students understand the subject.”
