Completion of new school toilets at Vudoi Secondary School

Many schools in Tanzania do not have sufficient water and, above all, no clean drinking water. They are either not connected to the public water supply or, if they are, the water does not flow regularly and there is not enough of it. Increasing droughts and the often delayed onset of the rainy season as a result of climate change are exacerbating an already difficult situation. This was also the case at Mandaka and Vudoi Secondary School, two boarding schools in Mwanga in northern Tanzania.

The consequences of water shortages are unsustainable hygienic conditions, which are a major burden for girls in particular. School administrators told us that girls often do not attend classes during their periods due to water shortages. The risk of infectious diseases is also growing.

By drilling wells at both schools, we were able to fundamentally improve the situation. Once water was available at the school, new sanitary facilities could also be built at both schools.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Rivera Foundation, the TOOLS FOR LIFE Foundation, the International School Düsseldorf, Hazera Seeds GmbH, and all other donors for their support!
