School Sports

Sport makes you happy and smart and promotes holistic, healthy development

Many children in Tanzania have never seen a proper sports field. Most schools do not offer physical education classes. There are no sports fields, or only makeshift ones, no balls, no nets, and no trained physical education teachers.

The positive influence of sports and exercise on the healthy development of children and their learning success, as well as the positive influence of sports on social interaction and the learning atmosphere, are hardly known in Tanzania. Sports are widely regarded as unnecessary. Our goal is to give sports a greater importance in schools, promote the healthy development of children, and achieve a positive effect on the learning environment and learning success. In our sports projects, we train teachers for physical education, build sports fields, and provide balls, goals, and nets. A special focus is placed on promoting girls' sports.

Multiple positive effects: Your donation helps!

Playing sports together brings people together. New friendships are formed, students support each other as a team, learn to deal with defeat, celebrate shared successes, and motivate each other. They learn to push themselves and persevere, and stay healthy and fit. In addition, the children learn different motor skills and have fun together. Last but not least, after physical activity, the children are able to concentrate better in class. Sport has been proven to have a positive effect on educational success.

Girls in particular benefit from additional and especially gender-sensitive sports programs, as these often break down stereotypes in a playful way and enable equal access to education and a healthy lifestyle. In this way, the promotion of sports in development cooperation contributes to the achievement of several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the same time. These include not only good health and well-being (SDG 3), but also inclusive, equitable, and quality education (SDG 4) and gender equality (SDG 5).

In order to provide more schools with sports equipment, teacher training, and sports fields, we need further financial support – thank you very much for your donation!
