How does PROBONO support North-South school partnerships?
With the help of our Tanzanian partner NGO PROBONO School Partnerships for One World and our cooperation partners in Uganda, we connect interested German schools with suitable partner schools in Africa.
We promote dialogue and intercultural learning projects by providing teaching materials for German-African student groups, advice, and information on global learning. We support the partner schools in communication and advise them on exchange trips. The projects, in which students from Germany and Africa learn from and with each other in direct exchange, make an important contribution to international understanding and promote global learning on both sides.
Many German schools also provide financial support to their African partner schools. PROBONO assists in collecting donations for projects at African partner schools and contributes to the financing of joint projects through its own fundraising activities.
It is important to us that a school partnership is not just about sending donations from Germany to Africa. Supporting partner schools in the South is a key concern for us, but dialogue and exchange are also essential goals of a PROBONO school partnership.
In our experience, a decisive criterion for a long-term school partnership is also the sustainable anchoring of the partnership in the school. The more people get involved – students, teachers, or even parents – the better and more versatile the school partnership can be.
PROBONO offers German partner schools the opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas on the topic of school partnerships within the PROBONO school network.
Our advice and support for development education work at German schools within the framework of North-South school partnerships is funded by the state of Hesse.
